I think it's just intended as a spam indicator tool. Not how much your channel is spammy but how likely it is to be a spam channel. Never knew that the having no channel art could rank your channel lower though. Although that should be something fairly obvious to include... :D

I'd say try to keep on at it (long as you still enjoy doing it). Even if you cut down on how much you do on youtube it can still be a side project if you have some free time. I think the main thing you need to do is not think about youtube as a way to earn money but use it to experiment, meet...

I like to watch channels grow, when they hide their sub count I feel less connected with the channel. It still wouldn't stop me from subscribing to them if they had good content maybe just a little less likely to.

Doesn't bother me at all, I've subbed to channel with like 5 subs xD Long as they have interesting content that's all that matters. I'm not really a fan of channels that hide their sub count though, no idea why but they seem suspicious :D

I think either are kind of useless without the other. If you have lots of subs and they don't watch your content then there is no point having them. If you have lots of views, but no subscribes then you don't have anyone returning to view content.
