No, a network will not protect you from copyright issues, that is your job to ensure that your channel does not have any copyrighted content.

I would highly suggest receiving the money on a regular basis. It leaves a lot less room for error and anything could happen in the next 5 years. In terms of declaring it, as mentioned above, you declare it once you receive it.
