Just giving credit isn't enough if you ignore the license in the first place. What was the license of the music? Was it actually royalty free?

Consider this, I download your video of Youtube right now, upload it, and just place a small credit sentence in my video description.. On a scale of 1 to 10, how annoyed would you be?

That said, first take a good look at where the music came from (give us a link if possible), where are the terms/licenses? Are you sure the copyright was for music and not video content? Etc?

Answer those and I'll try help.

Edit: I get my music from Incomputech they're free with the following small copyright snippet.
"Soaring" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

"Can I use these sound effects in my videos?
Yes. You can use these sound effects in your videos without infringing copyright."

It seems like the uploader isn't even the original author of the song, so we can't be certain that he knows if the music is copyrighted or not.

To be 100% sure that the music you are using is copyright free, you could contact the creator of the musical piece itself, but that is too much of a hassle. You could browse the music libraries that Freedom! has provided to partners.

Go to your Dashboard, and click "Music" on the left sidebar. There are different options to choose from, like Position Music, Epidemic Sound, and AudioMicro.

There are other options, like Kevin MacLeod's repository, which many people use and enjoy.

Sorry for the late response, y'know, work, life etc.

Anyway, first and foremost, as AdanPlays says, if the author of any music states they are not the original author of the music, you're at risk. They could lie. For instance, this individual claims they've never made money from the music, yet they're linking you to adfly to download that exact track in a music pack..... making them freaking money. People are greedy. Only ever get your music from a reliable source. I like many others use Kevin Macleods at Incompetech which I list in my first post.

Second, I recognise the track from many of ComedyShortsGamers videos, who has millions of subs and clearly hasn't been infringed if he can afford a freaking lambo...... but how do we know he didn't pay a license or get express permission. Never assume the usage of a song in someone else video as Royalty Free.

Summary:
  1. Trusted source ONLY! No excuses
  2. Do not use music just because other are, they may pay a fee for it
  3. Read carefully, the clues where in his description. "I don't make money, but here, click my adfly link, hehduurur"
  4. No terms = no usage. Never risk it.
  5. Screencap/save all terms. Terms may change and drop you into poopy land months after your usage.
  6. Always link back/show credit if explicitly requested.
I would dispute the copyright, link to the video and point out that you were deceived. No promises; but I hope you don't get any strikes.
