YouTube Have I just stumbled along something magical?

I was messing around with my YouTube settings and I stumbled across an option:

By default my "channel recommendations" were on the setting selected in the picture above. Does this mean mean what I think it actually means or does it mean something else by "channel recommendations?"

Does this mean that If I started uploading videos, it wouldn't appear in other recommendation sections with this setting selected?

No. It means that this

1. isn't shown on your channel
2. won't have your channel on it on all of YouTube.

This is actually better explained on the old YouTube Layout (accessed through adding ?disable_polymer=true after the URL):

Would you recommend that I should leave it on or off?

For 90% of channels it won't hurt unless you really don't want other channels put on yours.
