I use Audacity. It's freeware and have a lot of professional alike tools. Is really easy to use and quite easy to learn it. Better than this one, just the Adobe Audition 3.0, which I don't usually use because I just have it on my university.

When I record my videos, I don't record them with just one software. In the most of the cases, one of them (audio or video) will be bad and not synced. So for video I use OBS (video and ingame audio) and for microphone I use Audacity.

The main thing is, in my opinion, just be simple and keep it "true". Your name and a couple of images of things you have on your channel should be a good way to, at least, start and make a good banner. Also, you can try to "link" your banner with your avatar. Feel free to see what I've done on...
