Yeah it was lowered too 100 earlier this year. I was wondering how was I able to get mine then I saw they had updated the requirements :)

I'm still experimenting with intros to find out what I like best vs. audience likes. After all, intros mainly just show off the channel name lol. I haven't really seen that much of a different using a teaser clip vs. not using one.

To go with the tips listed above, I'd say that you could have the best looking channel and content but people have to know about it. And without spamming, your other option means meeting lots of people on forums and other social media and just having everyday conversations so people care about...

I like the sleek fonts Apple and Google use at their keynotes conferences. But that not always good since you really need something bold for YouTube :)
