Has mental illness ever stopped you making videos?

So I recently decided to start a new video series called 'Matty On' in which I talk about different subjects. In my first episode I have decided to make it about depression as that is the reason I quit youtube for a year. So I thought I would ask you guys, Has mental health ever affected your ability to keep up making videos? Personally it was difficult and just time wasting for me.

I think depression makes it difficult to do anything! Depression is such an all-encompassing part of one's psyche. Personally, I've never gone through any sort of serious depression, thankfully. But life is hard. No matter if you're living on the streets or safe at home, being a human being is just hard graft. Emotions and feelings and responsibilities get heavy sometimes and, seeing as many people start off YouTube as an unprofitable hobby, it's not something people are willing to focus on.

Not to mention that, if you're in a terrible state of mind when doing videos, it's going to reflect in your content. But to anyone suffering depression, it's the root cause you need to cure, not the depression itself. And trust me, anti-depressants aren't a fix. They are a crutch. Sure, they help, but I know someone who's been on them for a long, long time and it's like watching a drug addict. It's scary.

Yeah I've said most of what you said in my video. So I definitely agree. Now that I'm no longer depressed its so easy to see what I was doing wrong but at the time things are just way to confusing. Anti-depressants are the worst thing the pharmaceutical company ever invented. Instead of expanding your mind to be able to fix your problems. They make you ignore them which will just make it a lot worse later down the line.

Completely agree. I'm glad to see you're in a better place now. I hope your story goes on to inspire others in a similar situation that you had!

I hope so too. That's why I've started writing many papers and why I'm making content on the matter. To hopefully help anyone who is going through the same thing I did.

I had moderate-severe anxiety for a while. Now its kinda mild-moderate depending on the situation. I have more awkwardness than anxiety when it comes to making videos. My multiplayer videos are way better because when I'm with people I know I can be me. When I record a single player game I always hold back because it feels weird to talk to myself, that and I have really thin walls in my house. So no, it doesn't stop me from making videos, but it keeps me back from making the best content.

My depression and anxiety has stopped my from doing a lot of things but I don't think that making videos it one of them. Me battling these mental illnesses encouraged me to make more videos because what I really wanted was to help other people with mental illnesses and also YouTube is kind of an escape if you know what I mean :) But anyway, a couple of years ago I made a video about depression and self harm, I think this was when I was just recovering from a hard stage in my life (heres the video
(yes I do look very emo XD)) and this is my most popular video on my channel with 1100+ views and people have commented things saying I have helped them which has also really helped me, yes I still suffer now but I guess it isn't as chronic as it was a couple of years back :)
Hope you find this usefull :)

Glad I'm not the only one XD I constantly worry about how I act and sound. I'm always kicking myself for using hand gestures too often.

Something that I've done that helps a little bit is I've started to imagine I am talking to someone else. As if I was live streaming and people were genuinely listening to me at that moment. Give it a go. It might help.

I'll definitely give the video a look. I'm glad to know your coping well. I've never had full on anxiety myself but I dated a girl for a year who had it pretty bad and it sucked. I'm glad youtube helps you out. Its better than what I did. I used alcohol XD

Also don't worry. I just came out my emo faze. We all had it :)

Me, my mom and my older brother all share the same anxiety see round about that time I made that video was when our mom and our step dad finally got divorced, my step dad was abusive and damn right horrible to us and mom was too scared to leave him, he still scares us now but things are definitely getting better and I really want to help other people who suffer from domestic abuse and also those who are suffering the after affects like we still are, it's all one huge journey and everyone can learn a lot from it :)

Anyway enough about me, I hope you're doing okay :) It really is a good idea to make videos about these topics as they can really help a lot of people :)

Yeah I just want to help others overcome their troubles. If I can find out someone at least benefited a little bit from me through my videos or papers it'll make my day.
