Im running a i7 6700k skylake CPU and I was able to get a 4.6ghz oc on it after fiddling for a while. Seems to have a temperature threshold of 84 degrees celsius before becoming unstable. Just could'nt push her past that :/

Whats your best OC?!

I'm currently fiddling with my i7-4790K trying to get it to a 4.8GHz overclock at 1.26V

If I were you, I would check out your voltages, the "auto" voltage setting for my motherboard would've killed my unit if it was on air, trying to get it on 1.42V is not good for the lifespan.

Mine is at 1.39V, so I'm not comfortable going any higher. I do have a h100i gtx cooling it. Just guess I didn't win the silicone lottery xD

The hottest my cpu ever gets is around 60°C. That is under large rendering projects with multiple processes running. I'll probably try working it down to 1.38, but I want to keep that 4.6ghz OC. Helps speed up video production. >-<

It should be easy to keep a low voltage, with the newer manufacturing process, you should be able to get a lower voltage than even I do.

you're right it's not that high at all, but when i push for a 4.7ghz OC i need to bump the Voltage to around the 1.43 range. That's jut not safe and it pushes my cpu into 80°C+ range. It seems that my particular cpu becomes unstable at 83-85°C. So I settled with 4.6ghz, a voltage thats at the upper spectrum of my comfort level, and decent temps. Could probably tweak the voltage down a bit, haven't tried it though.

I seriously recommend trying to take that voltage down to 1.35 to try to see if it's stable. 1.4 will cut some life off your chip without a doubt. There is a LinusTechTips video about it and he got 4.7GHz on 1.325V, so unless you ate dirt in the silicon lottery, you should tone it down.

(PS: I'm legitimately concerned about that voltage).

you know what i actually try it right now[DOUBLEPOST=1445892510][/DOUBLEPOST]1.37V and it was stable for a 15 min stress test, When i go out i'll put it through a longer one to make sure

So many good CPU's... I have a crap one. Need to buy a new one :D have a £230 graphics card. The CPU holds me back D:

So I was able to get her down to 1.37V and stable on a longer stress test. Might be able to go down lower, i just don't have the time at the moment :p[DOUBLEPOST=1445956479][/DOUBLEPOST]

A good CPU can help with rendering times :) I would recommend getting a new one , not one supper expensive, but just an upgrade ^_^

Idk I think I might just go big and save up for a new I7 or something. Will take a while but yah :D Been playing DayZ for 3 years with 10-40fps, high fps only outside cities. Games like Arma are CPU 'whores', pardon the language its a term.
