We've probably all heard of the following games: Flappy Bird, Crossy Road, ZigZag, Daddy Long Legs.
And that is only a few of the majority of games that went viral around the gaming community quite a while back.

But why do these "simplistic" games get this much attention, even so, the most attention when it comes to the gaming market.

First we need to know why I keep calling them simplistic, and that is because all they really did is ask for a tap of the screen and you move, tap again and you move again, and all it takes is a little bit of timing and awareness and these games can be played continuously..

I want to know why you think these games even got this far in the market. Furthermore, if you were to try to make a viral game, like these were, what would your game be based on?

Okay my thoughts on this would be as follows

1: They make something unique and it blows up. Such as flappy birds
2: they make it simplistic so users can get a full experience without a lot of effort to progess in the game
3: Completionism. People like it and they want to get as far in the level as possible

I think it is all done to its simplistic design, meaning that anyone can pick it up and not have to worry about learning and remembering buttons, as you said most are just click and repeat.

As for what would I create, I think a tactical mobile shooter, based of the Resident Evil franchise, in which your decisions determine the outcome of the game.

I wouldn't say it has to do with attention span, really. Like the others said, these are easy games to play, that anyone, even those who are not into video games, can play when they literally have nothing to do. And these games are usually on the phone, which makes it that much easier to play. Accessibility is key.
