Agreed. Since you're doing vlogs, my recommendation would be to take a specific frame from the video that looks really good, and spice it up for use as a thumbnail.
OR
A thumbnail that effectively describes the content of the video without too much fluff.

Yeah too much fluff looks ridiculous I think, I'll try to make better looking thumbnails though.
