This is a question and statement to all musicians and music lovers out there. If you aren't interested in music creation then get out of here.
I'm a guitarist. I cover and re-version songs, mainly rock but I do everything.
I'm also a big fan of electronic music and generally anything with the RÜFUS, Hermitide or Avicii sound.
I remember when I was young. Playing around with GarageBand and it's loops making music. Back then I thought it sounded good but generally you always think your own music sounds good when your starting off.
Coming back years later to listen to what I was making back then, I can't even begin to describe how bad it sounds. I guess it's like my old films, they sucked when I started, I started off making bad videos in iMovie but over time I got better and better and this just isn't happening with music.
I've come to learn how to pick out what sounds good and bad.
I want to make good music that I can share with friends, family and others. I can play killer songs and fast solos on the guitar but I'm more interested in electronic but I'm thinking of doing a mix with guitar in.
I am able to make music. I'm able to play music but the thing stopping me is the ability to write music.
I always seem to have a hard time coming up with my own beats and sounds that don't suck. I can't seem to come up with a beat, play it then mix it.
I'm starting off small with a MacBook Air running Studio One 3 and An iPad running Launchpad. I'm upgrading to Logic Next year.
Can I have some advice from you musicians out there as how to get started making music that doesn't suck. I know it's all apart of the process but this has been going for years.
I'm going to start ripping off songs for practice, and I mean ripping the heck out of them.
I'm on no budget, I'm using my iPad as a MIDI keyboard and sound pad, which works fine.
I would like advice on how to get started, how to come up with beats, advice for making music on minimal hardware and software and any general advice you have.
I'm currently on acoustic guitar upgrading to electric shortly which is when I'm going to be taking it to a whole new level.
Thanks guys.
