I found that increasing the Project rate in Audacity improves noise cancellation and betters audio quality.

[Note that I cannot speak on the behalf of ANY headset microphone for this use.

Never heard of that before but increasing the sample rate should make for better audio theoretically...

You could be on to something here...

Not real sure how it cancels background noise though... do you mean audio hiss or actually noises in the background?

I would assume the audio hiss. I refer to it as background noise as I see it unnecessary.
