I promote mine on Reddit. I get a couple of views from it, but it definitely doesn't bring you in 100's-1000's of views right off the bat.

I would not recommend posting on Reddit unless your market is YouTubers.
The place is teeming with "subbed, check me out" users who will inflate your subscriber number past many means.

Is reddit a good place to go to promote videos?

If you are using reddit just to promote then no, the sections for video promotion are horrible because it's pretty much all spam. If you use reddit to interact with the community on the type of content your channel uploads then it can be a very good way to get views.

If you are using reddit for the first time I'd suggest spend a week or even a month reading and replying to topics before you even think about posting any links yourself. Find a specific subreddit that suits your channel, don't use the generic video or Youtube subreddits. Also read the rules... They are very strict or rules and most people get auto banned if they try to use it just for promotion.

All that being said I think around 90% of my views are probably from reddit, or at least that's where they first get seen before being shared to other places :)
