So I don't even really know if this is the right forum to be asking in....but I run a little fun channel and I like to interact with the people that watch my videos. Quite a few people have requested that I play "Emily Wants To Play". I am a console gamer however and have only ever recorded through my Elgato. I recently downloaded Steam and bought the game however I ran into a big problem. I am familiar with OBS (Open Broadcast System) which is how I planned to record it. But when I tried to do so it recorded everything up to the point at which the game launched and then it was just a black screen until I closed the game, which then it remained normal. I thought perhaps it was OBS so I tried some other recording software such as SmartPixel. But then again it did the same exact thing. So basically I can't seem to record the game but everything else is fine. Is there some sort of setting I need checked for Steam games? Thanks in advance.
Can you tell us the settings you used on OBS. I'll try to help as best as i can. Try to take some screenshots and be very specific on your settings,

Hmm I been having problem recording with OBS. Sometimes the video is choppy or it will just stop but the audio will continue on playing. If your recording I suggest you to use Dxtory or Fraps. Much more better in my opinion

I have it all fixed now it was a problem with the screen resolution however it is a little laggy at parts so I may try Dxtory or Fraps. Are they a free and is one better than the other?

OBS is the best screen recorder it offers a lot more settings that you can change it shouldn't be laggy. If so try to lower encoding to 1000 and try to lower your resolution downscale in the video tab of your settings.
