Hiya, was wondering if any body could help me, i have recently upgraded my computer parts bla bla bla i now have the Radeon R9 290 graphics card which only has 1 HDMI port for my main monitor then i am having to use a DVI-D port for my second monitor now i brought an DVI-D adapter and the VGA is plugged into my monitor and my computer isnt detecting that i have a second monitor plugged in? can anyone help?

I believe it was Linus of LinusTechTips that said, "if you are using adapters, you don't have your priorities straight".

Does you VGA-link monitor have anything other than a VGA port?

You're definitely plugging both into the graphics card? if they're plugged in on the graphics card console you should have an option to scan/detect monitors to see if it picks up the other monitor. Alternatively right click your desktop screen and go to Display settings to see if there's a drop down option for the second screen.
-There's also a quickkey on some keyboards to allow duel screen.

If it doesn't work replace/buy another the graphics card or buy a new monitor.

if it detects the monitor but the screen is On but Black/Blue then maybe your graphics settings (dpi/res) is set too high for the monitor you're using.
