You should not feel bad about it taking 4 hours to upload 12 gigs. I can't upload even 1 gig in like 20 hours

It would be a good idea to do if you are unsure about how a particular game would do on your channel. I sometimes play about the first 20 minutes of a game then if the response is good I might continue the game on the channel.
